THE LIFE AND THE MINISTRY

1929; Watchman Nee, the disciple of Christ was walking along one of the roads in China. Does not have a job of social dignity, nor a popular Christian ministry, health is also down. While walking as if a beggar, with the help of a walking stick, due to ill health, suddenly a man came and held his hands. It was his professor who taught him at the college. He took Nee to a tea shop seen on the road side. Both sat down. The professor was silently gazing at Watchman Nee as if he had seen some thing unbelievable. At last he whispered to Nee. “You were one of the most brilliant students in the college. We were sure that you would be great and conquer heights in life. But….are you going to confess that you have been like this?”
“Truly, first I felt like weeping about my ruined life, when I heared it.” Later Watchman Nee wrote. “But, all on a sudden, may be for the first time in my life, I saw the spirit of glory being filled in me where I made my self to be empty. The very thought that I could spare my life for the Lord’s sake, filled my spirit with glory.”
Man cant tolerate anything being misused. Everything must be utilized to the fullest in this world. Money, influence, talents,-none of these should be kept idle. Friendships, relationships, aquaintainance etc. should also be fully exploited. All these should be used properly and utilized in order to reap gains and developments- attitude of this world goes like this.
The same formula is being experimented, unfortunately, in the Christian world also. Endeavors from a small scale to a large one…, ministry form prosperity to prosperity… No, nothing should be missed. Everything should be used to it’s fullest. Eyes are on- gains and expansions. The target will justify the method! Among this ‘rush of activities’, if anybody becomes willing to break the alabaster box of his self life and serve the master with the precious oil of love, they will start to hiss like Judah Iscariot, “why this misuse, this wastage?”
When the disciples pointed out that the fragrant oil which Mary was willing to pour out at the feet of Jesus was coasting three hundred dinars and that could be used for many other good things, he did not agree with their opinions about a fruit full ministry. Instead, Jesus applauded her and detoured the attention of the people from that “work” to “her”
Yes, Jesus is always so. He honors the ‘person who ministers’ more than the ‘magnitude of ministry’. For him, the ‘attitude’ behind a work is more important than the ‘work’ done.
He doesn’t want for a ministry which is separated from the life. In other words, life and ministry should not be mutually exclusive but the same.
“Jesus continues here “where ever this gospel shall be preached in this whole wold, there shall also this that this woman has done, be told…”.what does it mean? It means that the message of such ‘self loosing’ or ‘wastage’ has to be spread all over the world with the real gospel.”-these words of Watchman Nee are relevant to be quoted here.
How much is this message relevant as far as your ministry is concerned? Have you found Jesus so an eligible man to be served that you are willing to pour out your entire talents and even life before his feet?
